Important investment completed in 2021!
An investment worth several hundred million zlotys, completed in 2021 as part of the Oder and Vistula River Basin Flood Protection Project, has increased the flood safety of the Oder and upper Vistula river basins. It is a real protection for the residents of these regions against flooding.
The OPDOW comprises major flood protection investments, the execution of which contributes to the flood safety in Poland.
THE KŁODZKO VALLEY
Wody Polskie is implementing a multi-phase flood prevention strategy for the Kłodzko region, part of which is carried out under POPDOW. Its aim is to protect the lives and property of the residents of the Kłodzko area and to improve flood safety for them throughout the region. Some of the major investments in 2021 include the construction of the Polder Roztoki in the Kłodzko Valley, on the Goworówka stream, which flows into the Nysa Kłodzka. The investment of PLN 235 million, concluded in October, marks the completion of work that has been in progress since 2018. It is one of the four modern reservoirs currently under construction in the Kłodzko region and forms a key element in the efforts to increase the safety of the inhabitants of this particularly flood-prone area.
The construction of the reservoir was undertaken with particular care for the environment. More than 85% of the reservoir’s canopy has been left in its natural state and is designed in such a way as to allow fish to migrate freely. In order to protect the bats which hibernate in the area, special granite chambers have been created.
More than 21,000 coniferous and deciduous trees, nearly 20,000 shrubs and riparian and meadow habitats were also planted as part of the compensation.
Thanks to the comprehensive approach to the investment, the reservoir service facilities building was also developed, operational road networks were constructed, the Roztoki Gajnik district road (no. 3233D) was relocated together with the bridge situated over the Nowinka stream, and the medium voltage overhead power line and gas pipeline were relocated.
The successful implementation of the investment was possible thanks to the excellent cooperation between the local community and the contractor (PORR S.A.). The project has improved flood safety, but also provided the local residents with new recreational areas. Two earth mass deposition fields have been landscaped with greenery and have become an excellent place for spring walks or winter sledding
