The works in the area of Ślęzoujście Street, located in the north-west of Wrocław, lasted more than a year. Their total cost amounted to PLN 12.6 million, of which PLN 8 million was financed by the Municipality of Wrocław. They were a supplement to the modernisation of the Wrocław Floodway System and provide protection against a possible failure of the embankment, during which water would cover an area of approximately 6 square kilometres and affect around 30,000 inhabitants of Wrocław, and the value of the losses could reach up to nearly PLN 200 million. The former embankment, which is also the aforementioned Ślęzoujście Street, was built in 1903 and was definitely in need of modernisation work.

Importantly, the environment was also taken care of during the task. More than 270 trees and over 7,000 shrubs were planted. Six thousand square metres of lawn were also sown. The historical character of the street was not forgotten either: stone paving blocks were used by incorporating them into relevant areas, such as embankment exits. Historical elements such as stone pillars were also recovered and built into the development, in non-collision areas.
The reconstruction of Ślęzoujście Street has also resulted in a new surface, a pedestrian pavement and lighting. Slowing down thresholds have been installed on the refreshed road. The road, in accordance with legal and technical requirements, was widened to 5 metres.
The investment was partly (approximately 30%) financed by the State Treasury – thanks to an agreement signed in September 2021 with the State Water Holding Polish Waters and the inclusion of the task in the Odra-Vistula Flood Management Project (OVFMP).
